Memorial Day

1. What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is when we remember those who died in honor while serving for the military services.

2.When is it?

It is traditionally May 30th, but it is now becoming observed on the last Monday of May.

3. What are some ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?

You can show your honor and respect on Memorial Day by sending letters to soldiers, visiting a nearby veteran's cemetery or war memorial. You can also visit a veteran's hospital and deliver the patients cookies, flowers, or write them thank you cards. You can always do what most people do and watch the National Memorial Day Parade in person or on television, and spend leisure time with your family.

I did not know there was a National Memorial Day Parade until just recently. 6. What are a few things you will do on Memorial Day to show honor and respect?  

In respect for this holiday I will watch the National Memorial Day Parade.

Memorial Day is a great holiday. It means a lot to those who have relatives that have served in the army. It shows that they are much appreciated, and are honorable for what they have done. I enjoy memorial day because my family gets the day off from work and we are all able to spend leisure time together. I am really interested in seeing the National Memorial Day Parade now that I am aware of its existence. I am wondering what they will do at such an event, and my interest is peaked. I will celebrate Memorial Day this way from now on if a good show is put on. For anyone who has served in the military services, I'd now like to say thank you

8. Telling the truth helps you to feel secure and peaceful inside.

Reflection: It is important to tell the truth because it is the right thing to do, and it is a good value to follow. It is important to tell the truth even if it gets you in trouble because this shows that you are willing to be honest no matter what the consequences are. This, will earn you credibility and help others see you as an honest person. It is important that others see you this way because it is what most people value in a person. For people to have any sort of relationship, there needs to be trust. If you have no trust in a relationship, then it cannot move forward, so it will probably crash and burn. For us to function in society we need to have relationships, so essentially telling the truth is what earns a significant amount of this success in social interactions.

Reflection: If someone has a goal, then they are more likely to get somewhere. If a person doesn't have goals, then they will have no purpose. If a person has no purpose, then they will not get far in life, and they will not be happy.  It is important to set goals so that you can achieve them, but you need to set goals that are correct. What I mean by correct is that these goals are met only by choosing the right and through constant hard work. If a person is constantly overachieving in everything they do, they are bound to end up reaching their goals. They may fail at times, but choosing the right and working hard will eventually get them to where they want to be. If a person completes the work cut out for them in order to reach their goals, then they will achieve them and everything will fall into place after that. Such things falling into place would be more opportunities, and happiness. The way to succeed is to create goals that you will achieve by choosing the right and by showing your strong work ethic.

Example: If you are making a decision on whether or not to go to that party late, what is the best thing you can do? The best decision you can make should be the right one.

Reflection: I agree with this quote by Theodore Roosevelt because decisions are not easy. But in order to make the best one possible, then you need to CTR. CTR is not just a motto it is a way of life. If you always CTR you will be taken care of. However if you CTW you will make all of the wrong decisions. CTR will always lead you down the path of success and a happy heart. CTW will lead you down the path of failure and regret. If you CTR you will never have to worry about making the wrong decisions. Once you start choosing the right, you can never go wrong.

Example: For example, you go to a party and there are alcoholic drinks. You drink there and get really drunk. You come home at around midnight and your parents see that you are drunk. They ground you for a month, they are disappointed in you, and you have lost their trust. What did you gain from doing the wrong? Nothing! You didn’t gain anything. The only benefit you will get is when you do the right thing.  

Reflection:What this quote by Wilford Woodruff is that we never gain anything from doing wrong, on the contrary, we get bad feelings as well as we lose dignity and respect if we choose to do the wrong things. You gain so much from doing the right things that it isn't really worth it to do anything associated as being wrong. So don't smoke, break the law, or anything that you know and feel is wrong, because remember that our actions can also bring consequences. There is no benefit from doing what’s wrong. You don’t gain anything from it.Choose the right and you will benefit and gain something. If you choose the right, then you will gain something. If you CTW it will lead you down the path of failure and you will not be successful.

Example: Stand me next to the dog and ask me for my word of honor to take care of it. If I give my word, I will keep an eye on that dog until told otherwise.

Reflection: If you give your word, that is a promise.Promises can also be seen as character. If you don’t keep your word people will not believe you in the future.You must always keep your promises because you are staying true to yourself and your character. If you CTR you will never have to even consider breaking your promises. If you CTR 24/7 it will become part of you and you will lead a life of only fulfilled promises. I would never break my promise because breaking promise is never the right thing to do nor will it be fair to anyone. If you break a promise it shows how weak minded you are and how it can affect anyone you want it to affect.

Example: If you invest in bad things then they will fail. If you invest in good things they will never fail.

Reflection: I agree with this quote by Henry David Thoreau. This quote means that you should always CTR no matter what you invest in. If you invest in the right things then you are also making the right investments. If you CTR 24/7 you will be happy and on track. However if you CTW then you will be a very bad person. CTW will never lead you to make good investments. It will lead you to failure and you will not be successful. If you CTR you will lead a happy, honest, giving lifestyle. Choosing the right isn’t just a motto, it's a way of life.

Example: If you know you have to study for a test and you go out with friends, you are making the wrong decision. It doesn't matter if it's popular or not, you should always CTR. You should make decisions based on whether you CTR or not.

Reflection: You should always put your best effort in decision making. If you CTR 24/7 you will be happy and be led down the right path. But if you CTW you will not be successful and it will lead to failure. No matter what situations you are put in in life, you should always make the right decision. The right decision only comes from you doing what's right. If you are doing things that are not good, then you will make the wrong decision. You should always CTR and it will guide you to the right decisions in life.

Example:If hanging out with your friends is popular then you should do it. But if you are going to hang out with your friends and drink and it's popular, you should not CTW.

Reflection:This quote means that you should always make the right decisions, whether they are popular or not. You should always ctr no matter what position you stand in, or how you are feeling.

“I won’t cheat”- Dale Murphy

Example: If your teacher decides to randomly give you a pop quiz, you should not cheat for the test, even if you didn't study for it. Instead you should be honest with your teacher about not studying, and ask her nicely if you can make it up at lunch or afterschool. If she says yes, then you can study for it, and retake it again to get an honest score.

Reflection:

Cheating can get you in serious trouble.By cheating in school and getting caught, it can lead to an automatic F or even worse a zero.In worst case scenario, it can lead to you being expelled. If you cheat to get a better grade, you're taking a big risk of getting a much worse grade that will bring your grade down. Cheating is unfair to you and your friends.You've probably heard an old saying that goes: "When you cheat, you're really cheating yourself." School can help make you a better person in many ways, and help you learn the things you need to live a fulfilling life. If you never really learn these things because you're cheating, then all you're going to learn is how to cheat! It's important to play fair in games and sports, and that goes for school, too. If you've ever had a friend who was so determined to win at all costs that she cheated at whatever game you played, you know how upsetting this can be. You're playing by the rules, and then someone does better than you by breaking the rules.That is very unfair behavior  to those all around you.When you cheat, it's unfair to the kids who actually studied and did the work.

Example: If you are a beautiful person, but have a very ugly personality, then people will look past your beauty and see you as hideous.

Example #2: If you are the strongest person on earth, but have a weak bad heart, then strength will not matter.

Reflection: This quote  means beauty, strength and wealth are not as important as your personality. If you are beautiful but have a wicked heart no one will like you. If you're ugly or beautiful but have a kind heart you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. It only matters what's in our hearts and our desires to do. If we desire good in our hearts, then good will come to us. If we desire bad in our hearts, then bad will come to us. We should always have the pleasure to CTR inside of our minds and hearts. Happy hearts that do good will always bring us happiness. If we have a genuine heart to to good for ourselves and other people then that is a right heart.

They’re only truly great who are truly good.” -George Chapman

Example: If you are a baseball all star, but you cheat you don’t get honored as much. If someone is honest while playing baseball, but they lose they still get praise because they played fair. It doesn’t feel as good to play dirty rather than to play true to the game.

Reflection: If you are a cheater, you will probably win, but you will feel guilt. It is better to play without cheating because you will feel truly good about yourself. You are truly a loser if you win but you are cheating. It is unfair to those around you to cheat because they are playing fair when you are not. It is always better to be a CTR person 24/7. Choosing the right leads down the pathway to success and a happy heart. Choosing the right isn’t just a motto, its a way of life.

True Independence and Freedom:

“True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right.” -Brigham Young

Example: If you want to be independent, then you should CTR. If you want to be free you should also CTR.

Reflection:

If you CTW, you will not have a chance at freedom. This is because you cannot be truly free unless you choose the right. If you do whats right, you can be free and independent. If you do not do what’s right you will be a failure. I agree with this quote because if you choose the right you could never go wrong. Choosing the right will lead you down the path of success. Being  a CTR person means that you will find the happiness inside your heart to be free. You can actually have independence and freedom when you do the right thing. I always CTR everyday.CTR makes me feel happy and also makes me feel independent.

“I trust that my hard work will pay off.”- Tyler Haws

Example: If you have finals on Monday, and you start studying on Sunday, you are not putting in a lot of effort. However, if you start studying for finals a few weeks before, you will get a better score because you have worked hard for a long time. If you stay dedicated to everything you do, hardwork will pay off.

Reflection:Hard work pays off IF:
You're working hard at something somebody WANTS.
You're working hard at something not everyone can do.
You're working hard at something you're actually GOOD at.

No matter what you do or when you do it, hard work always pays off in the end. Hard work is what we have to do if we plan on going or doing anything in this life. We cannot sit back and take it easy all the time, we have to get out there and work for what we want. When we have to put forth hard work then you know the rewards will be that much greater.I believe that I should try my hardest and eventually my hard work will pay off.If I really want to achieve something in life, I have to work my hardest. I know that my hard work will pay off later because I am dedicated to getting good grades in school. As long as I Choose The Right 24/7 and work hard, I know that I will be taken care of.

Example: If you are very smart, but you have a bad attitude people will start to hang out with you less.So this is why intellect is more important than character.

Reflection: I agree with this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson.We all know how easy it is to follow the majority, to do as everyone else seems to be doing, to do only that which is considered average. It takes a strong individual to live a life based on his or her own ideals. Such a person shows strength simply in ability to remain on a chosen path regardless of the inevitable counter forces.It is the fear of these counter forces that keeps most of us away from our natural desire to learn in order to fulfill our desire for acceptance. It is the fear of these counter forces that threatens us to inaction rather than face failure.Although we tend to restrict ourselves, we admire those who have the tenacity to face up to these forces in order to live the way they choose. To those who have used their mind to perceive and understand the unknown we recognize their intellect. To those who go the extra step of being a living example of their beliefs we recognize their character. If you choose the right 24/7 you will lead a happy life and heart.

Example: If you see that there is a mess on the kitchen table, you should do your part. If you just walk past it without cleaning it, then you are not doing your part.

Reflection: I agree with this quote by Alexander Pope. It shouldn't matter if those around you don't act their part, you should only worry about doing your own part. If you do your own part, you will be taken care of by yourself. If you act well, honor will come to you on its own. It is always honorable when you CTR 24/7. You should always be a CTR person no matter the situation. You will be honored by those around you for making the decision. Even if everyone around you is Choosing the Wrong, you should stand alone by Choosing the Right.Choosing the right isn't just a motto, its a way of life. If you choose the right 24/7, you will find true happiness inside of your heart, and be very successful in your bright future. :)

Example: If you decide to be involved with people who smoke and like to drink at parties, then you will fall under the influence of them. This is a very good example of teens CHOOSING THE WRONG. However, if you decide to surround yourself with people who get good grades, and CHOOSE THE RIGHT, then you will be okay because they have a good influence on you.

Reflection: If you care about the reputation you have around others, then you should surround yourself with honest, kind individuals. If you surround yourself with people who don't Choose the Right, then eventually throughout the course of time, you will stop Choosing the Right. You should always choose to follow the crowd who are kind, responsible, honest, loyal and safe. You should never follow a crowd that has a bad reputation because you will be seen as disrespectful, unkind, dishonest, and rude. Even if you think you are a good person, once you're seen around people that Choose the Wrong, people will label you. They will label you as an individual who is Choosing the Wrong and not Choosing the Right. If you are seen in a crowd where everyone is Choosing the Right, then you will be labeled as a person who is headed down the path of success. Even if you are standing alone, if you Choose the Right 24/7, you will be taken care of. Even if you feel lonely or sad, you should still abstain yourself from bad individuals who you think are your so called "friends." It is better to be alone than in company of those who CHOOSE THE WRONG.

 Example: If you know that you should pay rent on time, and you go to pay it at the bank, you will be taken care of. However if your bill is overdue and you pay it, then you will have to pay an extra fee. This shows how you will not be taken care of unless you do the right thing.

Reflection: What this quote means is that if you choose the right 24/7 then you won't have anything to worry about. Things will take care of themselves because things are set out the way they are supposed to be. Live your life, but live it right. Choosing the right isn't just a motto, it is a way of life.If you do good, you will feel good. If you do bad, you will feel bad. If you choose the right everyday, you will not need to worry about bad things happening. You could set your mind free because all good will come to you . Choosing the right is very important in everyday life.

Example: If you do not have goals set for yourself, you will probably not care about getting good grades in school. However, if you have goals already set for yourself, then you will push yourself to do better to achieve those goals.

Reflection: Goals are very important in life because they show what your future will be like. if you work hard everyday towards these goals and constantly remind yourself, you will be a step closer to success. People that are successful all had goals at one point, then by putting in hardwork, they finally accomplished them. No one is born successful, and success is entitled to no one. If you are enthusiastic everyday to learn and obtain new information, it shows that you are putting in effort to reach your goals. Goals are the first step towards becoming successful. Once you start doing your best at everything, you will be closer to success than you would without any goals.

Example: Those who are choosing the wrong, drinking alcohol or injecting heroin, believe that they are truly happy come from the effects these harmful substances have on their brain. This is a deception because true happiness only comes to you when you do good.

Reflection: The example above also relates to what Abraham Lincoln has expressed, those who do good feel good. He states this to show that if you do good, you will feel good. It also goes for if you do bad you feel bad. If you are a CTR person 24/7 you will find true happiness in your heart. However if you are a CTW person, you will not find happiness anywhere. Once you feel the goodness of Choosing the Right once, you will continue to do it because you will love the feeling. You will love the feeling you get of putting good out into the world. CTR isn't just a saying, it's a way to life. If you always CTR you will always be happy. If you CTW you will always be unhappy.
